The People’s Revolution
Today marks the 25th Anniversary of the People Power Revolution. On February 22-25 1986, the people of the Philippines took a stand against the corrupt regime of President Ferdinand Marcos. It was with a series of popular nonviolent revolutions and prayerful mass street demonstrations that the people were able to help restore the country’s democracy. During the height of the revolution, an estimated one to three million people filled Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) all wearing yellow with right hands in the air creating the letter “L.”
A people empowered are a people united.
In today’s times, people of the Arab world face the same corruption in government and must endure similar struggles. It’s taken the courage of the country’s people to stand up and fight. Many have already died protecting the most important thing worth fighting for…their freedom.
As many are saying, stand in solidarity with Yemen, Libya, Bahrain, Iran and the rest of the middle east. SPREAD the WORD and make yourself AWARE. With the spirit of those Filipinos before me I too stand in solidarity with the many nations who are fighting today.
Some of us wouldn’t be able to enjoy the freedom we have if it wasn’t for those before us fighting for it.
